Teeth Whitening Stoney Creek

Effective Stony Creek Teeth Whitening Procedures

It’s said that a smile is one of the most beautiful features you have. A smile is able to relieve stress and calm you down, it is beautiful, and helps you socialize when interacting with people. However, the benefits of smiling could be hampered by discoloured teeth.

Your smile is often the first thing people notice about you, but over time your teeth can become discoloured by coffee, wine, certain foods, smoking, tartar, aging and other causes. At Gateshead Dental, we offer two procedures for teeth whitening in Stoney Creek which are aimed at enhancing your smile by whitening your teeth.

Why Consider This Procedure?

Before we look at the two procedures we offer, it would be good to take a look at some of the signs that would indicate why you would want or require whitening:

Stains on the enamel

White streaks

Yellow tints

Brown spots

If you notice any of these then it is time to see your dentist for a professional tooth whitening procedure.

Our Hamilton Teeth Whitening Procedures

The two procedures we offer at Gateshead Dental gives you the opportunity to enhance your smile at very affordable prices:

Custom Whitening Tray

Our dentist will have you visit for custom made acrylic trays that are fitted to your upper and lower teeth. This method offers the ease of home application and the trays can be used daily with a whitening gel for a period of two to four weeks.

This is one of the most effective and safest teeth whitening treatment since the custom trays are made to fit your mouth and ensure that the whitening gel does not leak to your gums and cause irritation.

Non-Custom Tray

This method comes packaged with stock trays prefilled with teeth whitening gel. While not as long lasting a result as the custom tray, the procedure can give good results to people whose teeth don’t have a high degree of discolouration. The other advantage to this system is that is less expensive.

Types of Teeth Discolouration

There are three main types of teeth discolouration that may encourage you to seek out solutions:

Extrinsic Discolouration

This type occurs when the enamel (the outer part of the tooth) is stained. This could be caused by foods, certain drinks, and smoking.

Intrinsic Discolouration

This happens when the dentin (the inner part of the tooth) darkens. This may be caused by exposure to too much fluoride as a child. Another cause could be a result of using tetracycline antibiotics before the age of eight or the mother using these antibiotics in the second half of the pregnancy. Another cause is if you took a fall when you were a kid and hurt your tooth in a way that affected its development. Lastly, it could be that you were born with a rare condition known as dentinogenesis imperfecta, which causes gray, purple, or amber discolourations.

Age-related Discolouration

In some cases, the dentin can turn yellow with age. In addition, the enamel grows thinner with time hence allowing the dentin to show. As such, age-related discolouration can be termed as being caused by the combination of both intrinsic and extrinsic factors.
